I think that my statement would be called hyperbole. However, some would argue that Nikon has not been the leader is some technology over the years. Myself, I have been shooting Nikon since 1968, so I have no complaints. You might try it with a center weight hanging from the underside of the tripod, and that might be good for your use, but when I am shooting wildlife and using that combo, I need my big tripod. Also, FYI, I no longer use a Wimberly, having moved to an RRS pano setup, which very nicely doubles as a 'fluid' head. That way I do not have to carry extra weight when I travel.

Re: The Me Foto Travel Tripod: A Review

An old thread, but very helpful. I bought a used MeFoto to use while shopping for a "better" tripod--but it has been fantastic and I haven't needed more. However, I'm getting a Nikon 200-500 and thinking about the Wimberly Sidekick. Did you try the Sidekick with the MeFoto? Thanks.

Re: The Canon Pro-1000 Rocks!

That is great news about the firmware upgrade, it would be a feature we would be greatly interested in while trying to calculate print costs. I heard replacing the cartridges is no cheap task. I just hope they last for a substantial amount of prints at that price.

Cheers
Rob

Re: The Canon Pro-1000 Rocks!

Hi Rob:

Thanks for the comments. It's always helpful for my readers to read other perspectives and to see questions that crop up.

Although we have not used the Pro-1000 enough to determine the ink usage, we have just been informed that Canon this Fall will be issuing a firmware upgrade that will allow users to figure out cost/print and/or ink usage. That will be a first for printer manufacturers and a giant step for transparency. We are eager to see this happen. As far as the roll interface goes, we have not pursued that because we also own a Canon 6450 (24" wide with roll compatibility) and an Epson 44" which we use only with rolls. As a follow-up to my blog review, we continue to be impressed with the Pro-1000 prints, although a new set of inks I purchased this week set me back $714.88!!!! On the other hand, that's better than the $2,300 I spend on an Epson set. You gotta love this business model.

Best of luck with your purchase.

Les

Re: The Canon Pro-1000 Rocks!

Thanks for the review. My wife has recently started her own photography business and we have been less than impressed with getting prints to our satisfaction through multiple professional printing labs. I am intrigued to do it ourselves, matching our color profiles for optimal accuracy and potential cost savings. Not to mention convenience. I had been reading lots of reviews on the Canon Pro 1, and was quite set on it until I read the press release on the pro 1000 last year. How have you guys found ink use with this machine compared to the Pro 1? It sounds like the quality is far superior, making the cost less of a concern to me. Have you guys been able to calculate a rough cost per print average at all? Lastly, I know it is stated that roll paper is not compatible. I read a few reviews suggesting it may be possible to fabricate your own roll paper holder. Can the settings within the print interface be manually set at all to allow roll paper use if one was to create a roll dispenser?

Thanks for the help, and the review!

Re: The Canon Pro-1000 Rocks!

Les, thanks for the tip on the B&W tonality. I just spent the morning printing out several images in B&W from a Botswana safari, and they are just as good as the color prints. For the price it's an amazing printer. My only niggle is the cost of inks, but it's in line with other manufacturers.

Re: The Canon Pro-1000 Rocks!

Thanks, Dave. We are really enjoying this workhorse of a machine. Nice design, thoughtful features, easy setup and use and luscious prints. BTW, the B&W tonality is awesome.

Re: The Canon Pro-1000 Rocks!

I have to agree with everything Les has said about the Canon Pro-1000. After an unpleasant experience ten years ago with another vendor, I swore I would never print my own work myself. The Pro-1000 is easy to setup, easy to use, and dead accurate colors. Only a couple of minor glitches with the software installation, but I fixed those fairly quickly. If I can find the right paper locally, I have a surprise for my wife from a recent trip to Borswana. Canon did a great job with this printer: Highly Recommended.

Re: A Panorama Example

Hi Julien:

You can purchase the tripod legs at: https://store.naturescapes....

However, an alternative is to watch my friend Darwin Wiggett's video on how to make your own tripod leg covers for less than $5.00!!

http://www.oopoomoo.com/201...

Hope that helps.

Les

Re: A Panorama Example

Dear Lester, please where could i get this protection you did put on each leg of your tripod.
